WHSMT State Competition
Wyoming High School Mock Trial conducts its program using the rules of evidence and competition approved by the board of National High School Mock Trial, with some adaptation of the competition rules to accommodate our smaller size.
We allow teams to include eighth grade students for the state competition. Schools may field multiple teams. Our competition typically is completed in one day, during the first weekend of December. The number of teams determines if the championship may be decided by a final round or by rounds/points. Each trial has one presiding judge and three scoring judges.
The 2024 WHSMT state competition is December 7 in Cheyenne. Updates on the venue will be posted here. Below we provide links to the 2024 WHSMT case and the rules of competition and evidence. Clarifications and corrections will be listed on this page, as well.
We also will provide team registration forms on this page and trial roster forms that teams use to list defense and plaintiff sides. The deadline to register for the 2024 competition is November 7. The registration fee remains $100 per team. Pay by check to Wyoming High School Mock Trial.

Case materials have been clarified: Exhibit 4 Map has been replaced by a version that fixes typos in the Obstacle List and that makes the Legend list more legible. We also have answered a question to confirm that expert witness designation is not stipulated in this case. It must be established on direct examination.
Corrections: The date in Stipulation #28 (Final Pretrial) is 2023. In the email exchange in Exhibit #10, Lindsay directs her message to “Chris.”
